Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Library is a nonprofit organization that promotes reading and learning through sponsorship of quality library services and events, and is supported by an active and involved membership.

Solano County Libraries are centers of information where everyone can come together to learn, create, and develop life skills.  The Friends of the Library organization seeks to enhance and build library services for today and for the future.

Through material and book sales, membership and donations, the Friends of the Library raise thousands of dollars each year to support special events at Solano County Library.  Funds generated by Friends of the Library directly support children and family programs such as the summer reading program, after school programs and family storytellers, teen activities, poetry readings, author lectures, and theatrical and musical performances.

The Friends of the Library bookstores have major sales during the year and also maintain ongoing book and materials sales in branch libraries.

The bookstores depend entirely on donations of books, records, tapes, videos, CDs, and DVDs and other materials.  When making donations, all items should be in good condition and of current interest.  Please, no mildewed, underlined or yellowed books.  Donations can be brought to branches during business hours.

Additional volunteers are always welcome.  For more information on Friends of the Library meetings or to join, please contact your local library.

"I hated school. It's embarrassing when your peer would correct your spelling paper and you had practically nothing...The literacy program has really helped me by encouraging me. I never got that when I was a kid."
