The Dixon Public Library Board is considering contracting with Solano County Library for the management of the library.  This is an opportunity to provide the Dixon Public Library and Community with additional library services that include the following:

•    Achieve an economy of scale by having all administrative, automation and technical services functions handled by the county out of other county locations,   thus freeing up staff at the library to spend more time in direct customer service activities.

•    Ability to network and problem-solve with other staff in the County Library.

•    Achieve greater purchasing power by being part of a larger organization with ability to negotiate advantageous discounts.

•    Ability to work as a team member on countywide library projects that will benefit Dixon; yet still retain much autonomy in developing library service to meet the needs of Dixon residents.

•    Access to additional databases including Tutor.com, Lynda.com and #M Cloud (eBook platform).

•    Staff training and development opportunities.

•    Better salaries and benefits for staff, which benefits recruitment and retention.

•    5 day a week delivery service.

•    Additional programming opportunities

•    Ability to expand Literacy services which would include: pediatric literacy, ESL, Families for Literacy, Adult Literacy and Career Online High School programs

•    Dedicated marketing and public relations support, materials, strategies and reach.

•    7-day a week phone assistance (TA)

•    Ability to contract with Solano County for auditing services.

The Dixon Public Library still retains ownership of all buildings and materials.  The Dixon Public Library Board retains all responsibility for the library.   All funds and assets of the Dixon Public Library remain with the DPL.   All tax dollars from Measure L can only be spent for the Dixon Public Library.  All employees of the Dixon Public Library will retain their jobs, however, they would become employees of the Solano County.  The Dixon community would continue to receive the same superior services that our employees currently provide.

The Dixon Public Library Board will be entertaining this item at the next Board meeting on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.  Anyone wishing to comment on the idea of the Dixon Public Library contracting for management with the County is welcome to attend the meeting.  If you cannot attend and would like to comment please send emails to questions@dixonlibrary.com or mail your comments to the Dixon Public Library, 230 North First St., Dixon, CA 95620.
